Reginald Lloyd Downey, 78, Sydney/Amherst It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Reg Downey on November 24, 2009, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney.
Born in Amherst he was the son of the late Lloyd and Beatrice (Amon) Downey.
He was employed with Canadian Assemblies for 17 years. Then worked for Amherst Woodworkers/Premdor for over 30 years, until his retirement. He was an active member of the United Pentecostal Church. He also enjoyed volunteering at a local food bank in Halifax.
Reg is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Mansfield) Downey; his son, Wayne
(Loretta) Downey, River Hebert; daughter, Vicky (Tony) Hum, Amherst; stepchildren, Deborah (Lloyd) Crittenden, Sydney and Lorne (Kathy) Howell, Edmonton. Also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie (Linton), Megan (Chris), Matthew and Shelby; step grandchildren, Chris, Mark, Kandie. He was known as Grampie Reg to Avery, Sarah, Virginia, Logan and Makayla.
He is survived by sisters, Dorothy Goodwin, Amherst; Eileen Bogart, Edmonton; June Hank, Red Deer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Margaret.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the Revival Centre, Church, Amherst, with Rev. Jonathon Cole officiating.
Interment to follow in Amherst Cemetery, Amherst.
