LEONARD GEROGE MILES
January 30, 1933 ~ January 19, 2012
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Len, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox BC, January 19, 2012.
Len is survived by his loving wife Dorothy and three sons, Steve (Lee-Ann), Pemberton BC, Dave, Gibsons BC, and Ken (Barbi), Halfmoon Bay BC; three extended family members, Gordon Potter, Gibsons BC, Micheal Graham, Campbell River BC, and John (Lisa) Graham, Ladysmith BC; 10 grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; brother Sidney (Elaine), 100 Mile House BC; sister Nita (Ken), Edmonton AB; two aunts in Alberta; and many nieces and nephews.
Len was born in North Vancouver and spent his working career in the logging industry, first as a young man introduced to the many logging camps up and down the coast. He later worked for the BCFS as a timber cruiser for 6-7 years, and after successfully passing his log scaling exam he went on to become a BCFS Log Scaler, where he worked outside of Vancouver, before being stationed in Port Alberni and then transferred to Gibsons BC, where he retired after 35 years of service. He also worked for Western Forest Services after retiring (for five years). He and his wife Dorothy moved to Courtenay in 2004 where he spent eight years.
Len enjoyed his outdoor activities with family and friends as well as his many hunting trips, especially his hunting trips for years in the Peace River country and enjoying the cabin there. He also enjoyed fishing for salmon and trout. He and his wife spent many winter vacations in Barbados, West Indies, where he made many friends. Len had a great sense of humour and will be missed by friends and family.
Special thanks to Dr. Wiens and Dr. Winters for their kindness and compassion and to the staff at Glacier View Lodge and Eagle View Manor ECU. You were all very kind to Len.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Len’s memory to a charity of your choice.
A celebration of Len’s life will held at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club, 3206 Sunshine Coast Highway, Roberts Creek BC, on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
