She grew up on the Lysyshyn homestead. She attended Ponass Lake School for 7 years and then stayed home to help with the large family. Doris spent many happy years enjoying music and worshipping the Lord with her family. Her older brothers and sister doted on her and taught her the ways of the land, including fishing and farming. She married George at the Transfiguration of our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church on June 8th, 1946, and was blessed with three children. In 1957, Doris began her career as a Nurses' Aide at Wadena Composite Hospital. Her caring and compassionate nature carried her through 27.5 years of service to the community of Wadena, Saskatchewan. She was an active and respected member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Parish, Wadena, Saskatchewan including the CWL and Choir, and Altar Society. A member of the Royal Canadian Legion and President/member of the Social Dance Club, Doris loved to socialize. Her bright smile and fun-loving spirit invited others to relax and enjoy life to the fullest.

In 1995, Doris and George moved to Kamloops. Doris enjoyed gardening and landscaping; her yard was always a place of beauty and solace. She loved to fly, and had the opportunity to travel to Alaska and Belgium. Other interests included rock-hounding, animals, sewing and crafting, music, watching figure skating, and in the last twelve years CFL Football.
