Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer in the presence of her loving family on January 23, 2012, at the age of 65 years. She was a beautiful person, loyal and true, a best friend, a mother and grandmother. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Rita O'Brien, brother Ronald and nephew Michael Vaughan. Left to mourn with a broken heart is her loving husband of 20 years, Adrien Duguay. Also left to mourn are her beloved daughters: Corinna and Kelly (Darrell Summers). “Nanny” will be forever missed by her only grandchild, Raina, who gave her so much love and joy over the last four years. Leaving to mourn her ever-loving and so special sisters: Dot Grunsby (Fred), Elizabeth Vardy (Ed), and Marie Vaughan (Brian) and her brothers: Vince (Carol), Tom (Kareen), Stan (Peg), Felix (Joy), Gerry (Judy), Reg (Cathy); mother and father-in-law Claudia and Ernest; stepdaughter Lucie, and stepson Marc; brother-in-law Paul (Sherrylynn); sister-in-law Hugette; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Shirley always faced her illness with great dignity and courage. Special thanks to the nurses on 4 North A of the Health Sciences Centre, as well as to Dr. Rorke and the other doctors who assisted in her care. Resting at Ryan's Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Wednesday, January 25th and Thursday January 26th from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, January 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to take place from Immaculate Conception R. C. Church, Cape Broyle on Friday, January 27th at 2:00 p.m. Cremation to folllow. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.
