Peacefully at the Summerset Manor, Summerside on December 1, 2009 of Mary Freda Smith (nee Hammill), aged 80 years. Wife of the late Wilfred Smith of Newton. Born on January 13, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Redverse and Eva Hammill (Dawson). Mother of Elmer (Paula), Kinkora; Eleanor (Dean) Willing, Victoria, B.C.; Louis (Gaylene), Newton; Barb (Dinnis), Summerside and Donna (Byron) Shaw, Newton. Dear grandmother of Colleen (Terry), Patricia (Craig), Suzanne and Patrick (Ainsley) Smith, Andrew (Tammy), Marcie (Jeff) Lewis, Vanessa Smith and Olivia Shaw. Great-grandmother of Patience and Avrie Smith. Sister of Elaine McCourt, Eric (Helen) Hammill, Elmer (Mary) Hammill and Edwin (Joan) Hammill. Sister-in-law of Genevieve Hammill, Eleanor Puska and Elsie Smith. Besides her parents she is predeceased by brothers Gordon and Fr. Preston, sister and brothers-in-law Alma and Tom Reid, Pius Croken, Lloyd McCourt, George Puska and Maurice Smith. Resting at the Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora until Thursday, December 3, then to St. Malachy’s Church for funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. If so desired memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of PEI or Summerset Manor Equipment Fund. Due to severe allergies please refrain from wearing scented perfumes. CWL will have a prayer service at the funeral home Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
