It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of a great mother and grandmother Christene Elizabeth MacAulay, age 85, on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Barrachois Harbour, Christene was the daughter of the late John J. and Christene Ann (MacDonald) Johnson. In her earlier years she worked as a housekeeper. She was a member of St. Columbia United Church, Leitches Creek.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Christene is survived by her three sons, Wally, Charlie (Lena), both in Upper Leitches Creek and John (Pauline), Florence and her daughter, Cathy (John) Parks, Long Island; her grandchildren, Richard (Bridgett) Parks, Edmonton, Shannon (Steve) Doucett, Sydney and Jennifer (Rob) Horwood, St. John’s, Nfld.; her great-grandson, Alexavier Doucett and also step-grandsons, Johnny (Donna) Parks, Darren Fitzgerald and Justin Whitty. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Mina Johnson, South Bar and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel MacAulay in 1990, and her seven brothers, John, Alex, Nelson, Archie, Richard, Charlie and Wilburt and seven sisters Johanna, Sadie, Ann, Katie, Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah.
Visitation for Christene will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek.
