It is with sadness, that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Barbara Jean ‘Jeanie’ Michalik. Mom passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital with her family by her side.
Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Eleanor (Coady) Hall. Jeanie was a graduate of St. Anne’s High School in Glace Bay and started her working career as a legal secretary; she was later employed as a caregiver at the Cape Breton Hospital, Sydney River.
Jeanie volunteered a lot of her time to both children and seniors, heading the girl-guide troop at Holy Cross Church and endless hours with the Town House and Meals-on-Wheels. Mom had a big heart and was a very generous person, she was also a great judge of character, had a great sense of both wonder and humor. She loved adventures, spending time on her personal computer, playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles. She also loved to swim, having taught generations of her family to swim. Jeanie also enjoyed entertaining, cooking and baking for her family and friends, commonly being called “the best cook and baker in Glace Bay” but will be mainly remembered as a “Great Mom”.
Jeanie leaves behind her loving husband of 51 years Bernie Michalik; daughter Eleanor (Lonny) Quieripel, Hammonds Plains; sons Bernie, Toronto and Eddie (Tracey Williams) Halifax; brothers William ‘Bud’ Hall, New Victoria, Pat Hall, Glace Bay; sister Margaret Morrison, Glace Bay; grandchildren Liam and Joe Quieripel and Sophie and Marcus Reich-Michalik; very close friend Margie Turner; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, January 30 in the funeral home chapel, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.
