It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Madeline Achorn on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alexis and Lucy (Detcheverry) Admond.
Madeline enjoyed gardening, bowling, knitting and crochet. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing and camping trips with friends. She was the co-owner and operator of Cozy Corner Restaurant in the mid 60s.
She is survived by her children, Edwin (Auralda) Achorn, Australia, Leona (Ray) Conron, New Waterford, David (Mary) Achorn, Lawrencetown; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Norma) Edmond, Bernard (Ceceila) Edmond; one sister, Jeanette MacKenzie; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Nathan, six brothers, Francis, Leo, Alex, Raymond, Earnest and Norman, two sisters, Mary and Delfine and grandson, David.
Visitation will be today (Monday, Jan. 30), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, with Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Interment and reception to follow the service.
