It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of James Grant Hynes on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at QE II Health Sciences Centre, VG Site, Halifax, with his wife and family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, and a resident of South Street, Grant was a son of Catherine (Grant) Hynes, Glace Bay and the late Gordon Hynes.
Grant was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church. In earlier years, he was employed with the Devco railroad and later worked at Prince Mine for 19 years. At the time of his passing, Grant was employed with Offshore Technical Services in Fort McMurray, Alta. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time fixing his Willy’s Jeeps. Grant also loved cars, especially his 2011 SS Camaro. Grant also had a soft spot for cats and dogs. A very social man with a big smile and great sense of humour, Grant will be sadly missed by all. But mostly, he will be remembered as a loving and compassionate son, brother, husband, father and friend.
Grant is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Green) Hynes; daughter, Stephanie Hynes; sons, Adam, Parker, all in Glace Bay; one brother, Brett (Joanna), Ontario; a sister, Susan, Sydney; several nieces, nephews, especially Robert and Katherine Hynes and grandnieces, Emma and Peyton and grandnephew, Caleb.
Also left to mourn his absence are brothers-in-law, Steven Green (Margaret Anne), Robert Green (Tracy), both in Glace Bay; sisters-in-law, Wanda Green (Adrian), Margaret Burke (John), both in Glace Bay, and Carroll Anne (Kevin), Halifax. He will be affectionately remembered by his brothers-in-law as Pedro. Grant will be sadly missed by his furry buddy, ‘Monster the Cat.’
Besides his father, Grant was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Gordon Green and father-in-law, Frank Green.
Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 ,7-9 p.m. in the V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid is Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Cremation to follow. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the church hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Grant, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, Nova Scotia.
