William Cliford (Bill) Tilden Nov. 24, 1931 ~ Nov. 10, 2006 Bill quietly passed away in the early morning hours, surrounded by his loving family, at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home, from complications of lung cancer. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Beth, son Mike (Helen) McKellar - extended family Amy (Richard), Elmira and her parents, Matt and Grace all of Kamloops, daughter Ann (Rob) MacLellan, grandson Michael and granddaughter Ella of Saskatoon, his daughters, Gail, Geraldine, Sherry, their mother Terry, spouses, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Ellen Tilden, nieces Nancy (Terry), Faye (Nick) and their families all of Ontario. Bill was predeceased by his mother Jane (Gordon) Young, his father Lloyd Tilden and brother Claire. He will also be missed by relatives, friends, his Brother Korea Veterans across Canada and by his beloved pets, Dodie, Cleo and Finnegan. Bill was born, raised and educated in Leamington, Ontario. As a youth, he liked the military life and spent five years with the Essex Scottish Regiment, he then joined the Royal Canadian Regiment (2nd Battalion), saw service in Korea from November 1953 to December 1954 and later in Germany with the Paratroop Division. After release from the Army he worked for HJ Heinz Co. in Leamington, Ontario, where he was actively involved with making the infamous Ketchup. In 1973 he headed to B.C. - a place he came to love very much. He met Beth and they were married November 8, 1975. He then joined the Canadian National Railway and retired in 1991 as a Maintenance of Way Instructor. He was a 41 year Royal Canadian Legion member, a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Regiment and one of the founding members of the Korea Veterans Association in 1988. His hobbies consisted of square dancing, camping, golfing and drinking coffee at Tim Hortons with his friends. Closest to his heart was his love of animals, all animals. Bill was a very happy and caring person to all those around him and he will be dearly missed. The family wished to thank Dr. Paul Farrell, nurses of the ER and all members of the Hospice House who went above and beyond to make him comfortable as well as making sure that his family was well taken care of. Reverend Patricia McColl will conduct a memorial service, with Military Honours on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 1:00 pm in the Schoening Funeral Chapel.
