KARNES, GLENNA M. - Glenna Margaret (McLellan) Karnes, 96, of Woodstock, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Carleton Manor, having been a guest there since 2004. She was born in Oakville, the daughter of the late Chester and Nettie (Marston) McLellan. Glenna was a 1938 graduate of Woodstock Carlton Memorial Hospital where she earned her degree in Nursing. She continued on at the same hospital and had a very successful career serving as the head nurse. She married Allan Karnes in 1939 and raised her family on the Houlton Road. Glenna spent her time out of work reading, talking with friends, and knitting, sewing and needle pointing beautiful items for her family. She always enjoyed the many winters spent with friends at Cocoa Beach, Florida. Glenna was predeceased by husband Allan Karnes, daughter Patricia Karnes Ciampi, and son Peter Karnes. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Mary Karnes Asali. She is survived by her sons-in-law, Edward Asali and Louis Ciampi, nine granchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Glenna will be deeply missed by all those who loved and knew her. The family would like to thank Terry Harrison, who cared for her in her home and continued to be a friend and visited her in the manor on a regular basis. Glenna often referred to Terry as her third daughter. The family also appreciates the care she received from the staff at the Carlton Manor and the spiritual care from Lenny O’Halloran.
Visitation will be held at The Culberson Funeral Home 188 Connell Street, Woodstock, on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services to be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Gertrude’s Church with Father John Keoughan officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery at a later date. If so desired, donations may be made to the Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock, NB.
