Patterson: Nina Sterling, 86, of Brookfield and formerly of Upper Stewiacke, passed away peacefully Friday, December 4, 2009 at Elk Court in Brookfield. Born June 15, 1923 in Upper Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Glenn and Alice (Hamilton) Blaikie. Nina lived most of her life in Upper Stewiacke where she was active in the United Church, singing in the choir and playing the organ for many years. She enjoyed quilting and many forms of needlework. In 2002 she moved to Brookfield and spent the next six years there, having many good times with her friends in the apartment building. She is survived by son, David (Mary Margaret), Winnipeg; daughters, Judy (Leon Miller), Upper Stewiacke; Ellen (Dave Fisher), Calgary; brother, Leslie (Catherine) Blaikie, Greenwood; sisters, Shirley Dunphy, Lake Echo; Freda McCormick, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Helen (Robb Mahon), Saint John NB; Marg Patterson, Fredericton NB; Grandchildren, Darren (Crystal), Bradley (Melissa), Rhonda (Raland), Ruth Ann (Kris), Roy (Aarin); 9 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Muir; infant son, Edward; brother, Laurie; brothers-in-law, John Dunphy and Walter Patterson. Visitation will be held 7-9pm Monday, December 7, in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday, December 8, in the Upper Stewiacke United Church with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment to be held at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Upper Stewiacke United Church or to a charity of your choice.
