Brown, Richard Lee – 66, Truro
It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Lee Brown, 66, of Truro announces his passing at Colchester Regional Hospital, surrounded by family, on Sunday, February 12th, 2012.
Dick was born in Truro, September 11th, 1945 to his parents the late Cyril and Dorothy (Caudle) Brown.
He grew up in Truro where he received his early education, from there he attended St. Mary's University, then graduated from Holland College as a Planning Technician completing a two year program in one year. Thereafter, he worked in the planning department for the City of Sydney and the City of Dartmouth. He then spent over 30 years with the Department Of Natural Resources in the Parks Division as a planning technician, designing and developing provincial parks, receiving his Long Service Award in November '99. He had a multitude of interests in the community. He was a member of the Truro Bluebombers Pee-Wee football team coaching staff from '93-'97, Co-Director of Truro Pleasure Skating Club for 7 years, Secretary of the Fundy Cycling Club from '75-'81 (Colchester County's 1st Cycling Club), exploring the trails of Victoria park on his mountain bike, listening to and collecting music, a vast interest in cars (especially his Mini), and enjoyed sharing his craft of carpentry.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years Joan Louise (Young), his sons Joshua and David, his loyal friend, Riggins, brothers, Dennis (Marie), Toronto, Phil (Heather), Truro and Robin, Truro. He was pre-deceased by daughter, Allison (in infancy), parents, Cyril and Dorothy (Caudle) Brown and brother, Kenneth. Special thanks to Dr. Ricardo Rendon, Sue Winch, Lynn Riley for providing their wonderful care, and the Diagnostic Imaging Department of Colchester Regional Hospital for all of their support. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Dick Brown can be made to the Truro Minor Football Association, 128 Park St., Truro N.S, B2N 3J3. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15th with funeral service Thursday, February 16th at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, Pastor Cory Somers officiating.
