Joan Victoria D'Arcey (nee Bowers) passed away peacefully in her sleep at her farm in Darfield, BC, during the early hours of Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the age of 58 years. A celebration of life service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Tuesday afternoon, January 16th at 1 p.m. with her brother, Jack Bowers, officiating. Tributes will be shared by family members, and her Principal, Phil Janicki. Cremation with interment to follow in her parent's grave in Mt. Ida Cemetery, Salmon Arm. Born in Salmon Arm, BC on June 30, 1948, Joan taught at Kamloops, Revelstoke, and many rural schools in the Barriere area. She most recently taught at Vavenby Elementary school, where she is well remembered and respected for her special skills with her class. She was a member of the infamous, winning Jewel's basketball squad during the 1960's Provincial Championships. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Bowers of Salmon Arm, she leaves her loving family, husband, Bryan D'Arcey; daughter, Sarah; sons, Joseph and Patrick; sister Jill (Kip) Holloway of Revelstoke and brother Jack (Gayle) Bowers of Salmon Arm; many nieces, nephews, cousins, both in Canada and Ireland; and as well, her beloved students in Vavenby.
