With great sadness, we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Nora Huntley, 85, which occurred at the Northside General Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Annie (Goodwin) Romeo.
A lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, Nora was a devoted member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines.
Mom’s family and her faith were the foundation of her life and her greatest joys were being surrounded by family and friends at every opportunity.
Nora is survived by her seven children, Bill (Vera) Huntley, Mount Uniacke, Anne Marie (Michael) MacKinnon, Georges River, Joan (Joe) Gallagher, Coxheath, with whom she resided, Fr. Ray Huntley, Pictou, Bud (Madonna) Huntley, North Sydney, John (Dianne) Huntley, Georges River, Lynn (Michael Haikings), Dartmouth. Nora is also survived by her six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Bessie), Angus (Eileen), both of Sydney Mines, Stanley (Bernice), Boularderie; sisters, Pauline MacMullin, Dartmouth, Mella (Russell) Jones, Truro, Ethel, Ontario, Lauretta (Ken) Byrne, North Sydney, Theresa Romeo (Scott), Boularderie, Marguerite Romeo, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Eileen Romeo, Marie Romeo and Madonna Romeo; brother-in-law, John MacDougall; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Nora was predeceased by her husband, Warren Huntley, as well as by her brothers, John, Peter and Lewis, sister, Rose MacDougall and brothers-in-law, John D. MacMullin and Gerald Lyle.
Visitation for Nora Huntley will be held at Francis Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines, Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 at St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
