Lieu de décès : Terre-Neuve, Canada

November 7, 1931 - December 3, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, husband and grandfather. On December 3, 2009 at age 78 Karl died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife Agnes at 9:55 p.m. in Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 10th, 2009 in the hospital in Osijek, Croatia in the intensive care unit where he lay ill.

He is also survived by his three children: Harold and (Lynn) Hampel, Betty and (Bob) MacGowan, John and (Stephanie) Hampel; nine grandchildren: Hailey and Mason Hampel; Derek, Jared, Kyle and Kerri MacGowan; Lucas, Izaac and Alex Hampel; brother Hans-Jurgen and (Ruth) Hampel, sister Brunhilde Wolters; many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Hannover, Germany, Karl emigrated to Canada in 1952 at age 20 with a degree in Intensive Farm Management. He worked his way through a variety of positions in the railway and lumber industries in B.C. In 1959 Karl married the love of his life Agnes Wolters in Prince George, B.C. and started his family. He became involved in the motel business in Prince George in 1967. In 1971 he relocated his family to Kamloops where he continued to build his career in the hospitality industry. Karl was a true entrepreneur and a great mentor for many of us. His common sense approach to life and business remains a model of success.

Dedicated to his family and also to his community, Karl was a long time member and past President of the Kamloops North Rotary Club, a senior member of the local Schlarafen Club, The Friends of the German Language Club, Chamber of Commerce member and an enthusiastic supporter of the Kamloops Blazers Hockey Association and Kamloops Youth Soccer.

Karl was a kind and generous person who will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family and friends.
Please join us in a celebration of his life.
