James Fredrick Cairns, peacefully passed away on January 16, 2007 after a courageous battle with diabetes and cancer. Predeceased by his wife Evelyn in 1990 and son Rod in 2006, he leaves behind his daughters Donna (Bill) Bissett, Barbara (Fred) Warawa, and Lynne (Craig) Murchie, 5 grandchildren Jennifer, Andrea, Kerri, Erin and Ryan, great grandchildren Melissa, Andrew, Alexandra, Cameron, Callie, Taylor and Jessica. He also leaves Mary Marcer of Kelowna and special companion Elma Segal from Thrupp Manor. Born in Elrose, Saskatchewan on May 9, 1921, Fred joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at age 20. After serving 5 years, he was discharged at Pat Bay, B.C. He drove truck for 40 years, travelling across the country as he loved to do. Retiring in Vernon, Fred gardened and worked as a maintenance man for the Vernon Restholm where he later resided until 2005. Thanks to Dr. 's Stephanyk and Filek for all your care and support. Also thank-you to Thrupp Manor, BC Ambulance Service, Kamloops Hospice and Ponderosa Lodge. Given his 6'5" stature, he was not an easy man to look after. Thank-you so much for everyone's love, care and support in Fred's time of need.
