On Sunday, January 21, 2007 Mr. Ernest Robert "Bob" New passed away peacefully after a brave fight with cancer at the age of 90 years. He is survived by Rose his wife of 41 years, his children Tom New and Valerie (Jim) Kershaw, his grandchildren Mike and Charles New and Kyle and Mark Kershaw, his sisters Dorothy (Gerry) Gould of Nanaimo and Connie MacKenzie of Kelowna. Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Cindy in 1964. He was born in Kamloops on June 8, 1916 and has seen a lot of changes in this town over 90 years. Bob enlisted in the Rocky Mountain Rangers and fought in the Second World War. He worked for the Land Registry Office for 30 years, before enjoying 30 years of retirement. He was an avid fly fisherman and greatly enjoyed the outdoors. Bob was a true gentleman, with a great sense of humour, and he enriched the lives of all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Fisherman's Prayer Lord grant that I may live to fish upon my dying day, And when I've made my final cast Most humbly do I pray. That when in God's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep That in his mercy I'll be found Good enough to keep. The family would like to thank Dr. T. Simpson and Sue, and all the caring nurses at Royal Inland Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel with Canon Jack Phelps officiating.
