REDDEMAN April 15, 1921 ~ January 21, 2007 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Brenda Reddeman on January 21, 2007 at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Wally (Wendy) Reddeman, Marie (Don) Kristjanson and Dianna Van Dyke. She was the best grandma ever to Daniel and Matthew Reddeman, Pat (Arlen) Maguire, Christine (Terry) Corke, Douglas (Jen) Kristjanson and Dale Kristjanson; she also leaves behind great grandchildren Carson, Shelby and 2 week old Sophie Maguire, her sister Josie Jerris, and special friends Helen Saemerow and Louise Malahoff. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Larry, in 1979, her sister Pat in 1966, brother Walter in 1995, and parents Victor and Maria Yurkowski. Born in Winnipeg, MB on April 15th (payday), 1921, Mom lived and went to school in the north end. After she left school she moved to Toronto and worked as a seamstress at Monarch Overall. Being very athletic she took part in many sports playing professional baseball in Detroit during the war. Mom was also a speed skater and barrel jumper and skated with her long blades during the public skating sessions at Memorial Arena. She came out west to visit her brother, who was stationed in Kamloops during the war, and met Larry, the love of her life, who was also stationed in Kamloops with the R.C.A.F. They were married at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Vancouver on December 31, 1945. The family lived on Pine Street until 1954 when they relocated to 12th Street on the North Shore, where Mom had remained since. Mom managed the City of Kamloops concessions at Memorial Arena and Riverside Park for 20 years. She fed many, many kids but first they had to peel potatoes or sweep up around the concessions. Mom always made sure people were fed if they were having a hard time, or if there was a death or a celebration, and if they needed a ride somewhere she was there to help. She was extremely generous and a prolific volunteer. She received the 1988 Kamloops Citizen of the Year Award presented by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Mom worked into her late 70's catering at Kamloops Funeral Home when she finally retired. Mom and Dad helped with the building of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she attended daily Mass. She practiced her deep and abiding faith every day of her life and left the world a better place than it was before. Until we meet again Mom . . . We will always love you Prayers will be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 26, 2007 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 635 Tranquille Road. Viewing to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Church with Reverend Father Peter Nguyen, Celebrant. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Royal Inland Hospital Cancer Ward. Kamloops Funeral Home 554-2577 Condolences may be emailed to: Sympathy@shawbiz.ca.
