Lieu de naissance : Canada

Lieu de décès : Canada

Saunders, Blanche (nee Inglis) August 11, 1912 - January 21, 2007 Blanche Hannah Saunders passed away peacefully and with dignity at the age of 94 years on the morning of January 21, 2007. She was predeceased by her loving husband Lyle, her sister Isobel, and her brothers, Charles, David and Arnold. She is survived by her children Lyle Nathan and Mary Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Natalie Lillian, cherished granddaughters Avery Natasha, sisters-in-law Minnie and Blanche, and her many nephews and nieces. Blanche was born at home in South Vancouver. She received her Bachelor's degree from the University of British Columbia in 1932 at the age of 19, after which she became a much respected teacher at Mt. Pleasant School. She kept private the evidence of her caring and generous nature: frequent gifts of meals and shoes to needy students during the hard days of the Depression. Former students from Mt. Pleasant kept in contact with her for over 60 years. Blanche married Lyle July 3, 1943. They lived in Victoria until 1946 at which time the 'city' girl moved to Valemount, B.C., then reached only by railroad. There Lyle and she started in the sawmilling business. After sale of their business in 1953 they resided in Kamloops, then moved to Merritt, B.C. in 1955 to resume the sawmilling business. Blanche taught English and Mathematics from the opening day of the Merritt high school until her retirement in June 1967 and is still often asked after by many of her former students. She enjoyed activity. She curled, golfed, and was always ready to go and do with her truly wonderful friends in the Nicola Valley. After Lyle's death in 1967 the now 'country' girl returned to Vancouver and resided at English Bay, and then in West Vancouver where she could walk to Mary's home nearby to garden in the rose beds and tend to other flowers. Blanche built a house on Nicola Lake and returned there every summer to enjoy family, Nicola Valley sunshine and company of good friends. Blanche possessed a remarkable clarity of mind and very high principles which she never compromised. She led a full, interesting and fulfilled life for 94 years, and will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched. Some of her lives in all of us who knew her. Mom was a wonderful lady. No service at mother's request.
