It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin (Marty) Joseph Beitel on February 18th, 2012 in Kamloops, BC at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marty will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Sharon; his children Cory and Tara of Ottawa, ON; his brothers Jack, Otto (Ann) and Ed (Wendy); his sisters Rose Hirshmiller, Betty Mock, Jean Fink, Olga (Frank) Beer, Claire Smith, Frieda Haberlack, Anne (John) Hinger, and Adeline (Pete) Sitter; and sisters-in-law Barb, Regina and Molly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Marty was predeceased by his parents Zacharias and Theresa Beitel, his brothers Joe (Edith), Seb, Mike, and Ewalt; brothers-in-law Pete Hirshmiller, Otto Mock, John Fink, Wally Smith, Roy Haberlack, and sister-in-law Magdalene.

Marty was born on May 31st, 1941 in Moose Jaw, SK. and grew up in Regina, SK. He worked at the Regina Leaderpost and started his Advertising career at the Moose Jaw Times Herald. He met his wife, Sharon Kinaschuk in 1966 and they were married on July 12th, 1969.

Marty worked for many different newspapers which took him to different parts of the country such as Galt, Hamilton and Toronto, ON; he also worked for the The Calgary Herald; The Winnipeg Sun; The Ottawa Sun; and he finished his career at The Daily News in Kamloops, BC.

Marty enjoyed playing many different sports. He was an avid golfer, but his passion was football. He played throughout his childhood and into high school and eventually went on to play with the Regina Rams. He also coached football and most recently helped revive the Kamloops Broncos junior football team.

Marty was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight. He was also involved in the councils of the various parishes' he belonged to.

Prayers will be recited at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 109 Tranquille Road, Kamloops, BC at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24th, 2012. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25th, 2012 in the church with The Reverend Father Pavlo Myts celebrant.

Special thanks to Dr. Mahmood, Dr. Proctor and the Kamloops Cancer Clinic. Also thanks to the staff at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care.
