With heavy hearts, we regret to announce the passing of Tom Corbett, resident of Mira Road. Dad passed away Thursday, March, 1, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Gertrude (Aucoin) Corbett, and the late Alphonse Corbett.
He was employed at the Sydney Steel Corp., until his retirement in 1992. Dad was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12. Dad loved to spend time with his grandchildren who he truly adored, along with his summer boating on the Bras d’or Lakes, and at the bungalow in Gillis Lake. He was an avid Screaming Eagles fan. He was the co-founder of the Injured Workers Association.
Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol (George); son, Paul ‘Ecky’ (Lesley); daughters, Dawn ‘Midge’ (Seward) Slade and Dale (Kevin) MacPhail; grandchildren, Kyle and Shaun Corbett, Kaylie and Holly Slade, Morgan and TJ MacPhail. He is also survived by sisters, Rita ‘Vange’ (Dave) Gray, Terry (Doc) Petrie; brother, Donald (Kathy), as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Besides his father, Tom was predeceased by a brother, Raymond.
Special thank you to nurse Carol Cameron and the nurses of the ICU where dad spent his last few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. There will be a reception following the service.
