Ernest Willis MacKenzie

MacKenzie, Ernest Willis, 78, Halifax, passed away Saturday March 3, 2012 in the QE II, Halifax Infirmary, Halifax. Born in Upper North River, he was a son of the late Mary Jean MacKenzie. He retired from Nova Scotia Light and Power after 33 years of service. He enjoyed hunting with his friend Paul Edwards. He had a great love for his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley; daughters Shirley Wile of Dartmouth, Dorothy Putnam of Calgary, Phyllis Wright-Roberts (Doug Roberts) of Upper Stewiacke, Heather MacKenzie of Truro; sons, Willis, Leon, Ralph all of Upper Stewiacke; step-son Kenneth Hatt of Halifax; daughter-in-law Margo Hatt of Halifax; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Edna MacKenzie of North River; niece and nephews and several cousins.
Besides his mother, he was predeceased by son Robert; brothers Lloyd, John Robert; son-in-law Leonard Wright.
No visitation by family request. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday March 6 at 2:00 pm in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Rev. Brian DeLong will officiate with burial at a later date in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. Donations in Ernest's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
