KIRWAN - It is with sad hearts that the family of Robert (Bob) Wayne Kirwan, age 58, of Herbert, SK, announces that God called him home after a brief battle of cancer, on Monday, March 5, 2012. Bob was born in Swift Current, SK, and was raised in the towns of Tompkins, SK and Gull Lake, SK. He attended school until Grade 10, and then went to trade school in Moose Jaw, where he became a 4th Class Engineer. As Bob grew up, he showed an aptitude for mechanics. He owned many different vehicles and loved working on them, which continued on into his adult life. He loved to travel when he was young and traveled to many places in Canada, but he always returned to Swift Current and area as this was home. In 1981, Bob met his future wife, Sharon. Their relationship began as “Coffee Buddies” and it grew from there. They were married on August 31, 1984. Their first 2 children were born in Swift Current, SK, a girl born in 1985 and a boy in 1987. On October 29, 1989, they moved to Herbert. Bob worked at a car wrecking job and in 1991, they were blessed with twin boys, and Anne became “Daddy’s little girl”. He was very proud of his children. Bob continued working on vehicles and loved dealing on them. This slowed as he became ill with Fibromyalgia. It was asked once “if there was anyone in Herbert who had not dealt on a vehicle with Bob?” and at the time no one could think of anyone. For the last 3 summers, he worked for the Town of Herbert as Supervisor at the Town Dump. It was during his last summer working there, that Bob began to feel unwell. On November 30, 2011, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had surgery on December 15, 2011. Bob never fully recovered after that. He entered the hospital on January 17, 2012 and resided there until his passing. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sharon of Herbert, SK; his children, Anne of Swift Current, Bartley of Saskatoon, SK, David of Caronport, SK, Daniel of Swift Current, SK, and Robert Jr. of AB; his sister, Marilyn (Reg) of Stoney Plain, AB; his brothers, Joe (Joanne) of Melville, SK and Bill (Doreen) of Spruce Grove, AB and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Florence; a sister, Marilyn Theresa, in infancy; and by a sister, Darlene. The Celebration of Life for Robert took place on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 2:00 pm from The Lions Hall in Herbert. The Interment will take place at a later date.
