LUBYK – Mrs. Mary (nee Smolak) late of Prince Albert, formerly of Smeaton, SK, passed away peacefully on Monday December 7, 2009 at the Herb Bassett Home at the age of 98 years. Mary was born on October 13, 1911 at Samburg, SK. She took her schooling at Zamok School. Mary helped her parents farm till 1934; she then married Alex Lubyk and moved to her husband’s homestead at Smeaton where they farmed and raised their 5 children. In 1964, they looked after a summer resort at Baldy Lake for one season and then went back to the farm. In 1968, they built and ran a grocery store in Shipman, SK. In 1979, they retired and moved to Smeaton. In 1988, Mary moved to Prince Albert to be with her daughter, Noreen. Mary enjoyed her farm, her garden and all her animals. She milked cows, fed pigs, looked after chickens and turkeys. Mary worked on the field stooking and fed threshing and saw mill crews. Mary was a hard working woman. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Alex Lubyk in 1986; her father and mother, Stanley and Tekla Smolak; her four sisters – Rose Metwechuk, Helen Anderson, Gloria Brooks and Josephine Switzer; two brothers – John and Peter Smolak; one sister in infancy; two sister in-laws – Rose and Grace Smolak; three brother in-laws – John Metwechuk, Andrew Gibb and Jack Brooks; one daughter in-law, Edna Lubyk; one son in-law, Edward Zapotochny; and one grandchild in infancy. Mary is survived by one sister Gertrude Gibb of Amhurstburg, ON; her five children – Clarence Lubyk of Smeaton, SK, Morris Lubyk of Prince Albert, SK, Helen Krasko of Smeaton, SK, Noreen Harris of Prince Albert, SK and Vera Zapotochny of Prince Albert, SK.; her grandchildren – Peter (Tracy) Lubyk of Birch Hills, SK., Charlene (Terry) Farden of Nipawin, SK., Corrine Lazurko of La Ronge, SK., Deborah Lubyk of Saskatoon, SK., Wayne Krasko of Choiceland, SK., Colleen (Gary) Sjogren of Deer Ridge, SK., Jackie Krasko (Alan) of Roleau SK., Roxanne Krasko (Boyd) of Fort McMurray, AB., and Tiffaney Zapotochny (Brad) of Weirdale, SK.; her great grandchildren – Katie Lubyk, Spencer and Matthew Farden, Madeline & Jill Lazurko, Jeffrey Lubyk, Regan and Riley Krasko, Richelle (John) Lambiris, Justin (Jenn) Sjogren, Devon Sjogren, Ashley Nyberg, Jennifer, Camille and Nicole Stead; as well as her great, great grandchildren Danika Lambiris and Sadie Sjogren. The Prayer Service will be conducted on Friday December 11, 2009 at 7:00pm in the Chapel of MacKenzie Funeral Home, with Mr. Brian Clarke officiating. The Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday December 12, 2009 at 1:00pm at the Smeaton Recreation Centre in Smeaton, SK. with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Interment at Aldergrove Cemetery with lunch to follow at the Smeaton Rec. Centre. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Associatioin, 301 2550-12th Ave. Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
