Lieu de décès : Kentville, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 10 mars 2012

Carol Wright Hall passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012. Carol was born in Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A., the daughter of Margaret Gladys Kramer and Whitman Catlin Haff. At age 11, her mother was diagnosed with cancer and Carol moved to Pelham, New York to live with her aunt and uncle. After her mother’s death, she stayed in Pelham and graduated from Pelham high school. This was followed by two years at Packer Collegiate Institute, and two years at Barnard College. After completing her B.A. in botany at Barnard, she attended Wellesley College, graduating with an MA in botany. At Wellesley she held an assistantship in the botany department and enjoyed collecting specimens and growing plants for student laboratories. Following graduation she was offered a position in research physiology at Cornell University, under the direction of Dr. F. C. Stewart – a world renowned plant physiologist. It was at Cornell that she met her husband, Ivan Hall, who was a graduate student studying for his Ph.D. in botany. They were married in June, 1953 in New Rochelle, New York at Trinity Episcopal Church. She and Ivan then came to Canada and settled in Kentville, Nova Scotia. In 1994, she became a Canadian citizen. Carol took an active part in her new community and country. She was active in the church choir and helped teach English when the Kentville Baptist Church adopted a Vietnamese family. As her own family grew, she became intensely interested in the girl guides, becoming a "brown owl", a Brownie leader. She took several groups to Hardwood Lake girl guide camp. Carol found her greatest challenge in volunteering at the Waterville hospital. At first she acted as a swimming instructor, but then later took charge of the small greenhouse operation. There she grew many different plants for use in the hospital and worked with patients as part of their rehabilitation. In later life, she enjoyed crafts, had a great variety of house plants, took swimming lessons, participated in Tai Chi classes and was an avid photographer. She had a lifelong interest in conservation and birds stemming from her attendance at an Audubon camp in her teens. She also enjoyed travel, and accompanied her husband on trips to the British Virgin Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Netherlands, England and Bermuda. Carol had four children, Dorothy, Dartmouth, NS; Helen, Vancouver, BC; Peter (married Joanne Dubé, 2 daughters - Sophie and Louise), Lower Sackville, NS; and John (married Veronica Sanchez, 4 stepdaughters - Iliana, Johanna, Melissa, Viviana), San Jose, Costa Rica. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in the Kentville United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor John McNally officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
