Crockett, “Joyce” Catherine – 76, Hilden, Colchester Co. passed away March 13, 2012 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimers at Vimy Court, Shannex Nursing Home, Bible Hill. Born December 2, 1935 in Woodside, Halifax Co. she was a daughter of the late Munroe and Viola (Brown) Johnson. She grew up in Newton Mills and lived in Eastville for 26 years before moving to Hilden. She had many interests most of which involved being outdoors. She enjoyed playing ball, lawn care, walking and shoveling snow and especially growing a beautiful flower garden. She enjoyed knitting, old time music and dancing. She was an avid bowler and belonged to the Senior’s Bowling League. Joyce loved all animals, especially cats and there was always one in our home. Joyce worked at Stanfield’s for 28 years retiring in 2000 at the age of 65. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bernie; her son, Douglas (Jamie); daughter Tammie (Peter Oosterom); grandson, Bradley Oosterom, all of Hilden; also grandsons Jason and Matthew Crockett. She is also survived by brothers, George (Joan), Alberta, Steve, Upper Stewiacke, Eric (Mary), Middle Stewiacke; sisters, Sylvia White, North River, Debbie (Mike) Arseneau, Hilden. She was predeceased by sister, Vivian and brother, Larry. Bernie would like to thank the staff of Vimy Court for the special care given to Joyce. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 16 at 2 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. A time of visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make donations in memory of Joyce may do so to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Interment at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke.
