It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Florence ‘Flossie’ Belle Ashford, 86, beloved mother, grandmother and sister on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she resided for the past several years.
Born in North Sydney, Flossie was the daughter of the late Harry and Maude (Hinks) Lewis.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, and the St. John Anglican Altar Guild. She was a longtime member of the LOBA and the LTBA.
Throughout her life, Floss and her husband Claude created many fond memories for family and friends, serving up many a pot of fish chowder at their cabin in Kempt Head.
She is survived by her children, Ann Ball, Balls Creek, and Wayne (Gail) Ashford, Georges River; her three grandchildren, Melissa Ball (Darrell), Whitney Pier, Geoffrey (Shelly) Ashford, Surrey, B.C., Andrew (Sonja) Ashford, Stewiacke; five great-grandchildren, Dillon, Hannah, Lucas, MacKenzie and Cole; her siblings, brothers, Hec (Eileen) Lewis, George (Sue) Lewis and Dan Lewis; sisters, Bernice (Charles) Sampson, Joyce (Bob) Standing, Sadie (Ray) Joyes and Shirley Murray; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Flossie was predeceased by her husband, Claude, her sisters, Mary, Margaret and Hazel, brothers, Jim, Stan and Bill and son-in-law, Charlie Ball.
Visitation for Flossie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
