It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dorothy Walker, 74, of Gardiner Mines and recently of Grand Mira North. Dorothy passed away at home on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay Dorothy was the daughter of the late Francis Patrick and Violet (Baxter) Peori.
She was a longtime resident of Warburton Road, Gardiner Mines, and a member of St. James Church. Dorothy was employed at the Glace Bay Community Hospital in the housekeeping department retiring in 1988. She enjoyed playing bingo and working on crossword puzzles. She was a Blue Jay fan and loved to watch Nascar racing. Her most precious times were spent with family and grandchildren.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by daughter, Dianne (Alan) Weir, Grand Mira, with whom she resided; sons, Tony (Cheryl), Ontario, Tom (Terry), Alberta; brothers, Jim (Cathy) Peori, Wayne (Sharon) McDonald, both of Dominion; sisters, Cecilia (Bruce) MacDonald, Ontario, Carol Anne (Louie) McDonald, Dominion; cherished grandchildren, Logan (Carla), Mason, Elijah, Naomi, Isaac.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alex Walker (May 24, 2009), brother, Frank, sisters, Violet, Lilly.
In honoring Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines.
