Dorothy Gertrude (nee Barnable) Agriesti

Dorothy Gertrude (nee Barnable) Agriesti

Date de décès : 28 mars 2012

March 5, 1930-March 28, 2012. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a very special Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Dorothy Agriesti (nee Barnable), age 82 years at the Hoyles/Escasoni Complex. Predeceased by her parents, James and Gertrude Barnable, her sisters Philomena (Tommy Grant), Sister Dorothea Barnable, Sarah (Ron Roche) and Mary (Richard McGrath), her brothers Matt (Margaret), Henry (Elizabeth), Joe (Jean), Herb (Teresa) and Jack. Left to mourn and cherish her life are her loving husband Bernard Agriesti of Ferryland; her sons: Mark (Sherry) and Blaine; her loving daughter Luanne (Kevin Cleary) who was always there for her; her grandchildren: Clinton and John Agriesti (and their mother, Carolyn Hawkins), Olivia and Genna Cleary and Jeffrey and Renee Agriesti; her brother Stan Barnable (Frances); her sister-in-law Margaret Barnable (Jack) and a large circle of nieces, nephews and their families, and many friends. The youngest of eleven children, at the age of eleven she was diagnosed with tuberculosis. She spent most of the next 15 years in the Sanitorium in St. John’s fighting this disease. Despite having been anointed on several occasions and being given a slim chance of surviving, her willpower and determination won the battle. She was told by her doctors that her chances of successfully bearing children were also slim and she went on to give birth to three babies – 8, 11 and 12 pounds. She was a very talented artist and loved to draw, paint, read, write poetry and songs, and play the piano. She had a passion for learning and preserving the history and genealogy of Ferryland and the Southern Shore and became a valuable resource to anyone doing research on the area. She immersed herself in the things she loved and she went out of her way to help people in whatever way she could. She was a very dignified, deep and caring person, a woman of many talents and she touched the lives of so many people. A special thank you goes out to the staff of the 3rd Floor West, Escasoni Complex for the wonderful care given to our mother over the past six months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church (Ferryland) Restoration Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 195, Ferryland, NL, AOA 2HO. Resting peacefully at Fahey’s Funeral Home, Fermeuse.
