LAWRENCE, GARNET - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, on March 30, 2012 Garnet Lawrence, husband of Pauline (Paget) Lawrence and son of the late Wilmot and Elizabeth (Evans) Lawrence passed away. Born 1935, at Kingsclear, NB, Garnet moved to Saint John in 1942 and graduated from Saint John Vocational School. Garnet and Pauline were married on August 4th, 1956, they moved to Los Angeles on August 4th, 1958 where Garnet became co-owner of Hillcrest Paper. They lived there and raised their son. On August 4th, 1979, he retired and returned to live in Saint John. In his younger years, Garnet enjoyed boating on the Saint John and Kennebecasis Rivers, golfing, enjoying many summers at their cottage and was a past member of the Simonds Lions Club. For many years Garnet enjoyed and took great pride in his woodworking. He worked to create many beautiful cedar wishing wells, lawn swings, lounge chairs and arbors, all were a labor of love. Garnet especially enjoyed his weekly card games with his poker buddies and he especially enjoyed winning. Garnet is survived by his loving wife Pauline of 55 years, son Steve, daughter-in-law Elizabeth and grandson Steve Jr. all of Marco Island, Florida; sisters Helen (Rob) Burgess of Whitby, ON, Myrna (Lloyd) Henry of Saint John; brothers Willard (Marilyn) and Leland (Joan) of Saint John, and Roger (JoAnn) of Downey, California; one aunt, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd (646-2424) with visitation on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. The family would appreciate donations made to the Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation or to the charity of the donor`s choice.
