HORNER, IRENE (RENE) (Macalister) December 15, 1924 - August 7, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Keith (Kari), Nancy (Frank) Dionne, Sue Kehler and Theda Horner; her grandchildren: Jennifer (Shawn), Amanda (Leigh), Aubrey, Curtis and Kellie and her great granddaughter: Payton. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her two sisters Kathryn Yorston and June Sinclair, her brother Robert (Gladys) Macalister, sister-in-law Eleanor (Bill) Ross and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Rene was predeceased by her husband: Ted of 51 years, son-in-law Doug and six of her brothers. Rene was born in a small farm house just south of Quesnel, known as Macalister, growing up the youngest of ten children. Met and married Ted in 1951, moved to 100 Mile House in 1957, then to Kamloops in 1960. They settled in Dallas and raised their family. In recent years Rene traveled to France, England and Scotland, cruised to Alaska and cruised through the Panama Canal. She enjoyed her cribbage and bridge days and was always up for a game of cards. Rene volunteered for years with the Ladies Afternoon Auxiliary to Royal Inland Hospital and ushered with the Sagebrush Theatre. Rene served with the RCAF in WWII and a quote she often said was "Women served so men could fly." Mom will be missed by everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Lung Association, P.O. Box 34009 Stn. D., Vancouver, BC, V6J 9Z9 or the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home, 72 Whiteshield Crescent S., Kamloops, BC, V2E 2S9 would be greatly appreciated. A Memorial Tea for all mom's friends will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 between 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. at the Desert Gardens, 540 Seymour Street.
