It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Barbara Eileen Hilchey age 74 of Amherst on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Gables Lodge, Amherst NS.
Born in Dartmouth NS, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Ruth (Daniels) Manuel.
She was the manager of Dalfen Department Store until it's closing. She was a member of the Golden Years Society and volunteered with the Air Cadets in Amherst. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her friends and family at her cottage, where she made many lasting memories with her family.
She will be sadly missed and kindly remembered by her husband, Jack; her daughters, Deborah (Trevor) Wilson of Orleans ON, Susan (James) Hilchey -Gossard of Pittsburgh, PA and Heather Hilchey of Amherst NS; son, Jay (Trish) of Hampton NB; sister, Margaret Cote of Scarborough ON; as well as her grandchildren, Shaun, Jennifer, Christine, Kevin, Christopher, Erin, Mona, Michelle, Ryan and Inna; five great grandchildren; nephew, David Cote and niece, Wendy Cote.
Barbara was predeceased by her granddaughter, Charlene Wilson and niece, Sarah Sutherland.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with Rev. Patti Blundell officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in the Amherst Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
