Henrietta Jackson (Simms) Brown, 81, a life-long and well-known resident of Sydney Mines died suddenly but peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2012, at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
Born in Sydney Mines, Etta was the daughter of the late Emmanual and Sadie Simms.
She is survived by her cherished sister, Evelyn, Guelph Ont.; her daughter, Maureen, Truro; four granddaughters, one grandson, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her loyal friend and neighbour, Fran Matheson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, her daughter, Deborah, her beloved granddaughter, Lynn, four sisters and four brothers.
Etta was very proud of her Cape Breton roots. Over the years she was employed by the Strand Theatre, Co-op Bakery and the Sydney Mines Bargain Store. She was an adherent of Carman United Church, a member of Harbour View Hospital Auxiliary and was honoured to be chosen Silver Cross Mother in the 1990s. She was a loving and caring mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend who will be sadly missed but remembered with love and a smile for her keen sense of humour, joke telling and the laughter she brought to all who knew her. She was one of a kind.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, from Carman United Church, Sydney Mines, with the Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Carman United Church, Maple Hill Manor or a charity of choice.
