Florence Mercedes 'Cedes' Tobin

Lieu de naissance : Reserve Mines, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada

Lieu de décès : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 7 avril 2012

On Easter weekend, the Lord called home one of His most devoted servants. With the grace and dignity by which she lived, Florence Mercedes Tobin (MacNeil), 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital, attended by members of her loving family.
For more than nine decades, she brought joy and commitment to every relationship as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and true friend.
Born in Reserve Mines, one of 16 children born to the late Hector and Flora MacNeil (MacLean), she lived almost her entire life within walking distance of her birthplace at MacLeod’s Crossing.
Cedes lived on MacLeod’s Road for 59 years and was a member of Holy Family parish.
Among her many passions were baking, travelling and gardening. She had an amazing sense of humour, dry wit and she loved to laugh. But most important to Cedes was her family. She loved them unconditionally and took great pleasure in getting together for family occasions and playing cards with her sisters.
Cedes will be sadly missed by daughters, Terry Sutherland, Whitehorse, Arlene, Glace Bay, with whom she resided, Anne (Ken Heaton), Sydney; sons, John (Ruthanne), Victoria, Nick (Claire Kressner), Timberlea, Donnie (Carol) and Gerald, both of Glace Bay. Cedes is survived by sisters, Mary MacAdam, Reserve Mines, and Sr. Rita MacNeil, Glace Bay.
Grandma Tobin will also be missed dearly by Lauri Horte of Whitehorse, YK (Grant); Shenoa Matheson (Tim) and Connor Tobin of Victoria, B.C.; Jennifer Tobin (Josh Champion) of Kentville; Katherine Tobin of Glace Bay, and Chrissy Tobin of White Rock, B.C.; and by her great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Graham and Bretton Horte and Finnley Matheson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Cedes was predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd Tobin in 1970.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Daniel Boudreau and concelebrated by her nephew Fr. Robert McNeil will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church, Glace Bay, with interment following in the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Cedes, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.
Online condolences to the Tobin family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.
When her days on earth are over, a mother’s love lives on through many generations, with God’s blessings on each one.
