The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Saturday, April 7, 2012, of Shirley E. Bernard (nee Gunning) of Summerside, aged 68 years. Shirley was born on Sept. 27, 1943, in Summerside, to her late parents Stanley and Ethel (nee Smith) Gunning. Loving mother of Michael (Melissa) of Charlottetown. Also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Survived by her brothers John (Beverly) Gunning, Donald (Debbie) Gunning, James Gunning, and her brother-in-law Allan Phillips all of Summerside. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Phillips. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside, until Wednesday, April 11, then to Trinity United Church, Summerside for a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment to take place in People’s Cemetery, Summerside, at a later date. Visiting hours on Tuesday evening only, 6–9. Memorial donations in Shirley’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
