Cecil K. Akins died peacefully at Wheatbelt Centennial Lodge in Rosetown, April 14, 2012. Cec was born on the farm at Hearne, SK, one of ten children, to Edward and Mary (Kaltenbruner) Akins, March 5, 1924. In 1943, he joined the Navy and served on a “Corvette” escorting and protecting the supply ships crossing the Atlantic during World War II. After the war, Cec became a firefighter for the Regina Fire Department. He worked and raised his family in Regina until his retirement, as well as farming his Dad’s original homestead at Hearne. Cec is predeceased by his first wife Lois (Brown) Akins and survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 21 years, Peggy (Cockburn) (Tyson) Akins; his children Dawn (Jerry) Hicks, Bill Akins, and Shelley (Bryan) Miazga; his stepsons Dennis (Vicky) Tyson, and Doug (Cathy) Tyson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Danny, Mike, Kali, Keegan, Michelle, Terry, John and Brian, as well as several great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Marjorie Ferrara and Iris Watson and sister-in-law Melva Aikens. Funeral services are to be held at the Rosetown United Church, 118 2nd Ave E. Rosetown, SK, Friday, April 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Special thanks to the staff of Wheatbelt Centennial Lodge for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Clements Rosetown Funeral Home, Rosetown, SK 882-2662.
