We regret to announce the passing of Daniel Joseph Currie, son of the late Daniel and Florence (MacCormick) Currie at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, surrounded by family.
Left to mourn are his wife of 61 years, Beryl (Gratto); children, Marlane (Jack) MacNeil, Daniel (Debra) Currie, Kevin (Deborah) Currie, Denise (Stewart) MacKay, Darlene Clarke, Wendy Currie (Blair Lafford), Kimberly (Bob) Thomson. Daniel is survived by grandchildren, Allyson Hickey, Tara Foran, Erin Clarke, Graeme MacKay, Lindsay MacNeil, Melanie Nicholson, Brent Clarke, Danielle MacKay, Caitlyn Thomson, Andrea Currie, Lauren Currie, Michael Currie and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Dolorita Winsor; brothers, Warren and Karl.
Daniel was predeceased by brothers, Patrick, Blaise and Ray, sisters, Rita, Olive, Lillian, Pearl, Nora and Gloria, grandchildren, Robert and Meredith Thomson in infancy.
Daniel was an employee of Devco for 33 years where he made many lasting friendships. Daniel enjoyed many happy years at his cottage in Grand Mira surrounded by family and friends. Da enjoyed gardening, boxing matches and baseball games. Dad was a music lover and no stranger to the dance floor. Dad will primarily be remembered for his wit, hardwork and love of God and family.
Our sincere appreciation is extended to the staff at both Arborstone (Halifax) and Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facilities for their competence and compassionate care of Daniel.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Leo’s Church with Rev. Leo Boone officiating.
