It is with deep regret that we the family announce the passing of Rita ‘Queenie’ Carmichael on Dec. 17, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Murdock and Katherine (MacDonald) Carmichael.
Queenie was employed with Air Canada as a ticket agent for 35 years, until her retirement. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and entertaining her family and friends with a beautiful set table.
Rita is survived by her brother, Elgie Carmichael, Dartmouth; stepbrother, Garfield Murray; her beloved niece, Murdo (Don) MacIsaac, Antigonish; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Queenie was predeceased by her stepbrother, Robert ‘Wint’ Murray, and sister-in-law, Jean Carmichel.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec.19 at the St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney, with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment to take place at a later date in St. Theresa Church Cemetery.
