PHILLIPS Mavis Dawn Phillips went to be with her Lord in the early morning of October 27th, 2007. She passed away peacefully with family by her side. Mavis was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on August 9th, 1927 to parents Lorna and Douglas Hartley. Following graduation from King Edward High School in Vancouver, she earned her Registered Nurses Diploma at the Vancouver General Hospital. Mavis went onto specialize in Operating Room Nursing. As a result of her passion and skills for nursing, Mavis received the honour to join the operating team which performed the first heart transplant in Vancouver. Mavis married Mervin Phillips on July 16th, 1952. They made their home in Kamloops in 1956. This union was blessed with four children: Greg (Lydia), Grant (Pamela), Christopher (Mary) and Melissa (Gerry). Mavis is the beloved Nana of seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Kirk, Christina, Chelsea, Kieran, Devin, Ethan, Austin, Izabella and Liveea. Mavis is remembered by her brother Sheridan (Merle) of Calgary, Alberta, and sister Nola (Don) of Nanaimo, B.C. and many nieces and nephews who love her dearly. Mavis had many passions, but her two foremost were her faith and her family. Mavis was a member of the Kamloops Alliance Church where she was actively involved. During her brave fight with cancer, Mavis gave witness to both patients and those who either knew her, or met her, of the joy and peace that was hers because of her faith. Special thanks to all who have cared for and shared with Mavis over her lifetime. All are welcome to join the Celebration of Mavis' Life on Thursday, November 1st, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kamloops Alliance Church, with Pastor Don Olsen officiating. Should friends desire, donations to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home would be appreciated in memory of Mavis.
