It is with deep sadness that we, the family announce the sudden passing of John William Gatza 71, of New Victoria on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at home.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Larry and Bertha (Brown) Gatza.
Johnny was a retired coal miner and worked many years in the local mines. He was a well known bricklayer and stone mason and much of his fine work is evident in the local area today in many fireplaces and chimneys. Johnny will be remembered for his hard working ways and countless hours working on his property and especially in his yearly garden. He also enjoy going fishing and hunting every year.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Winifred ‘Winnie’ (Lanceleve); daughters, Bertha (Keith), New Victoria, Carol (Shelly), New Waterford, Winnie (Michael), Mississauga, Ont., Brenda Ottawa, Ont.; sisters, Ann (George), Alberta, Margie, Truro; brothers, Louie (Sis), Halifax, Sonny (Brenda), Antigonish, Anthony (Lorraine), Floyer, both of New Waterford, Burt, Ontario; grandchildren, Lloyd Hogan, James Hogan, Tiffany Hogan, Michael McGuire, Mya Keeping and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Peter, George, Joseph, Larry and sisters, Loretta, Theresa and two brothers in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 7-9 p.m. in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown.
