PICTOU/STELLARTON – Terris, Lawson “Luke” Fenton, 92, of Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Veteran’s Unit, Pictou, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters and granddaughter on December 18th, 2009, in Pictou.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Willard and Charlotte (Heroun) Terris.
Luke was a carpenter by trade and worked at Hawker Siddley for over 30 years, from where he retired.
Luke was a member of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Italian Campaign. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Luke will be fondly remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and neighbour.
He is survived by his son, Steve, Dryden, ON.; daughters, Brenda (Dan Grant), Stellarton; Nancy, Stellarton; Eva (Hal Murrell), Union Centre; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Myrtle Terris (Trott); sons, Lawson “Bugs” and Peter; daughters-in-law, Diane and Paulette Terris; brothers: William, Edward, Jim, Murray and Al; sisters, Eve, Jen and Myrtle.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Friends are welcome to join the family for a public graveside committal service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in Christ Anglican Church parish cemetery with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating.
There will be a fellowship following the service in the church hall.
Donations in memory of Luke may be made to the Pictou County Fuel Fund c/o The Pictou County Council of Churches or the Christ Anglican Church.
