WHITE, FLORA MAE (STEEVES) - 1915 - 2012 - It is with sadness that we announce the death of Flora Mae (Steeves) White on April 30, 2012. She was the eldest daughter of the late James W. (Big Jim) Steeves and Myrtle (Simpson) Steeves, being born on November 17, 1915 at Edgett’s Landing, Albert County, NB. She resided most of her life in Riverview, having spent the last several years at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, NB. Mae is survived by one daughter, Pamela Henderson of Riverview, and one beloved granddaughter, Brigid Henderson (partner Michael Simpson) of Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter White in 1991. Surviving family include brother Vaughn (Jack) Steeves (Ruth) of Edgett’s Landing; sisters Pearl Nelson (late Roy) of Lower Coverdale, and Mildred Smith (Reid), both of Riverview; sisters-in-law Hazel Steeves of Bedford, NS, Ruth Steeves of Ontario, and Jean Steeves of Lower Coverdale. She was predeceased by four bothers, George, Eldon, Murray and Aubrey, and by two sisters, Vera Pollock (late Bill) and Evelyn Bulmer (late Loris). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mae was a former Brownie leader and one-time member of the Pythian Sisters of Riverview. Her greatest joy was her family, and she spent many happy years baby-sitting her granddaughter. She also loved playing Auction 45. Mae’s entire career was spent at the T. Easton Company in Moncton, where she met her husband. She went on to learn millinery, then trained as a cosmetician, retiring from the Cosmetic Department.
As per Mae’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life for family and friends at the home of her daughter at a future date. Interment will be at Greenhill Cemetery, Edgett’s Landing, Albert County, NB at a future date. The arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview, NB (869-2007). Donations in Mae’s memory can be made to the SPCA, Camp Whisong (Tidewater Area Girl Guides) or the charity of your choice.
