It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bennie Dyck, age 83, on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert after a brief battle with lung cancer. Bennie will be sadly missed by his sons Sean Dyck (Christina Rolle) of Calgary, AB, Tim (Rosie) Dyck of North Battleford, SK, Steven Christopherson of Abbotsford, BC, Kevin Christopherson (Allanna Noviks) and grandson Steven Christopherson of Calgary, AB; special friend Lucy Cheveldayoff of Blaine Lake, SK who has been his companion for the last 12 years; his sister Mary Crowe of Calgary, AB; his brothers Jake (Helen) Dyck and John (Annie) Dyck of Duck Lake, SK; his sister-in-law Grace (Ferguson) Dyck; his mother-in-law Alice Sansregret of Edmonton, AB, his sisters-in-law Eileen Sawatzky of Sherwood Park, AB, Marlene (Perry) Dorgan of Edmonton, AB and Elizabeth (Grant) Lakeman of St. Albert, AB; his brothers-in-law Raymond (Jan) Sansregret of Fort Saint John, BC, Robert (Marlene) Sansregret of Calgary, AB and Gerald (Elsie) Sansregret of St. Albert, AB; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Bennie was predeceased by his wife Vivian (Sansregret-Christopherson) Dyck; his parents William and Agatha (Teichroeb) Dyck; his sisters Lena, Elizabeth and Agnes (Henry) Pauls; his brothers Peter(Lena)Dyck, Isaac Dyck, Bill (Ettie)Dyck and Cornie (Martha) Dyck; his father-in- law John Sansregret and his brothers-in-law Tim Crowe and Leonard Sawatzky. Dad was born on March 28, 1926 in Waldheim, SK, the second youngest of 12 children. He spent his younger years in the Garthland and Rosthern area, eventually moving to Prince Albert. He worked as a farm labourer then had jobs working with different electrical contractors, eventually starting a nearly 27 year career with Sask-Tel in 1957, taking early retirement in 1983. During his long Sask-Tel career he travelled all over northern Saskatchewan installing phone lines, as far North as Uranium City. Ben and Vivian were together since 1961 and married in Prince Albert in December 1989. Until his diagnosis, Dad was a very strong man for his age, and he rarely missed his twice daily walks at Kinsmen Park. While enjoying his 26 years of retirement he was a huge Toronto Blue Jays and Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, and he rarely missed a game on TV. Until recently he also did casual work at Lakeland Ford, along with his good friend Lloyd Rahn, dropping off and picking up vehicles all over Saskatchewan and Alberta. Dad was a caring and compassionate man who missed his wife dearly and was always looking out for their sons. There will be a casual come and go tea at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel to pay respects, followed by a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorial donations in Bennie’s honour may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director.
