Evangeline (Vange) Hatt, 82, of New Minas, passed away, surrounded by her family, Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late John and Christina (MacKenzie) Heffernan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend to all who knew her. Vange was the White Cross Coordinator at Kings County Hospital for 11 years. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and sang with St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church choir for a number of years. Vange had a great love for people; her family was so precious to her and her love of God and her church brought her endless joy. She enjoyed camping and was an avid gardener.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Sheldon and their children, Terry (Mary), Grafton, Bob (Theresa), New Minas, Shelley (Peter) McDowell, Kentville; daughter-in-law, Cathy Bowers, Wentzell’s Lake; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Hulme, British Columbia, Allison (Jamie) Bowden, Halifax County, Stephen (Lisa), Yarmouth, Jason, Kentville, Robert, Coldbrook, Jocelyn (Matt Rice), Wolfville, Brian and Christopher, New Minas; step-grandchildren, Adam McDowell, Ontario, Graham McDowell, Ontario, Megan McDowell, Halifax, Sarah McDowell, Margaretsville; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother, Emerson Heffernan, New Waterford; a sister, Helen Rose, Cambridge, Ont.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Brian; a brother, Myles Heffernan.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 with prayers to be held at 8 p.m. both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Fr. Craig Christenson officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
