It is with deep sadness we must announce the sudden passing of Bertha M. McLeod, age 91, of Sackville. Bertha passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Tyne Valley, PEI, she was a daughter of the late William and Amelia (Brown) Ellis.
As a young girl Bertha worked on the family farm in PEI and for her Grandma Brown. She moved to Moncton to study business in the early ’40s. Following graduation, she went to work at Fawcett Foundry as a bookkeeper. While boarding with the McLeod Family she met their son when he returned from the War. They went on to marry on May 22, 1946. Her adult life was dedicated to her husband and family, in which she took great pride.
Bertha was a member of Ruby Rebecca Lodge, St. Ann’s Anglican Church Women, St. Ann’s Anglican Church, Sackville Senior’s Club, and the Senior’s Bowling Club.
Bertha will be sadly missed by her daughter Linda McLeod of Halifax, NS, her grandson, Peter LeBlanc of Sackville, her elder sister Elvira Gorrill, Halifax, Mass., as well as several nieces and nephews, and family pets.
She was predeceased by her husband Wallace, sisters Margaret Ellis, Olivine Cotton and Gladys Lecky and brothers George and Leonard Ellis.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St, Sackville, NB, where visiting hours took place on Friday, April 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service was celebrated from the St. Ann's Anglican Church, Westcock, on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 3 p.m., Arch Deacon Reginal Stockall officiating. Burial will follow in the Westcock Cemetery.
