NEW GLASGOW – Isabelle Anne Culverwell (Willden) Davis, age 80, of New Glasgow, NS, formerly of Clementsport, NS and Dalhousie, NB, passed away on Tuesday, May 1 at home.
Born in Halifax, NS, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ella (Oland) Willden.
Isabelle grew up in Halifax and the Valley graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in Halifax. In her youth she studied music and dance, particularly ballet. After high school she worked in a bank and then at her mother’s Ladies wear shop. She married Walter D. Davis in 1955. They raised a family of three in Dalhousie, NB. She also gave private piano lessons, taught art at the high school and enjoyed painting, gardening and many great family times at the cottage in Charlo. She was lead trumpet in the Dalhousie Town Band for many years and for a time also played trombone. She was involved with choirs wherever she resided, often taking on the director responsibilities. There were many fine sing-songs with friends and family around the piano and with the accordion around cottage campfires. She also pursued her music degree at the University of Toronto when all of her children had graduated university and were establishing families of their own.
Surviving are daughter, Anna (Randy) North, Kingston, Ont.; two sons, David (Rosemary), New Glasgow and Robert (Sally), Port Perry, Ont.; grandchildren: Ryan (Jenn) North; Victor (Sonja) North; Jennifer; Jeffrey; Christine; Laura; Virginia (Euan) Petrie; Katherine; brothers, Gordon (Connie) Willden; Vincent (Olly) Willden; brother-in-law, Laurie Davis; sisters-in-law, Gertie Willden and May Smith; many nieces and nephews.
Isabelle was predeceased by her husband, Walter; sister Marion (Gus) Kirner; brothers: John and Ernest.
Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral service to take place at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church on Monday, May 7 at 11 a.m. with Father Gary MacPherson officiating.
Donations may be made in memory of Isabelle to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
