It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ella Bailey, 97, formerly of Paradise Complex, Nolans Lane, Glace Bay.
Ella passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, where she had been a recent resident.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annice (Davies) Russell.
Ella was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay.
Ella’s first husband, Roy E. Richards, passed away at an early age leaving her to raise her four young children. She made sure they had a very loving and caring home. She enjoyed knitting for every member of her family, especially newborn babies. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, framing and displaying them.
Ella will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Ruth (Richards) Hiscock, Glace Bay, Eleanor (Jim) Harris, Ont.; stepdaughters, Charlene (Roy) Borden, Glace Bay, Sylvia MacPherson, Sydney, Gilbertha Slade, Glace Bay; stepsons, James (Bruna) Bailey, Glace Bay, George (Rita) Bailey, Glace Bay, Vivert (Marie) Bailey, British Columbia. Also surviving are 11 cherished grandchildren, step-grandchildren and numerous great and step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ella was predeceased by her first husband, Roy E. Richards, second husband, Ben Bailey, sons, Gerald Richards, Roy Richards, sisters, Winnie McVicar, Maye Wareham, grandson, Jerry Richards, great-grandson, Nicholas Richards, son-in-law, Graham Hiscock, stepdaughter, Jeanett Brooks and stepson, Guy Bailey.
In honouring Ella’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Judi Phillips officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery, Glace Bay. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Donations in Ella’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
