Peter Wing May 4, 1914 - December 27, 2007 We sadly announce the passing of Peter Wing, a pioneer and Freeman of the City of Kamloops. He is survived by his wife and constant companion Frances (better known as Kim). Peter had a large family support group consisting of 3 brothers (John (predeceased), Jim, David) 3 sisters (May, Lily, Jean) and many many nephews, nieces and grand and great grand nephews and nieces. We will always cherish the fond memories of life on the farm and the large family gatherings. Peter Wing, C.M., O.B.C was the first mayor of Chinese descent in North America. He was elected as an Alderman in 1960, and served as Mayor of Kamloops BC for 3 terms starting in 1966. He received the Canadian Council of Christian and Jews, Human Relations Award in 1977. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1976 and was awarded the Order of British Columbia in 1990. He received the Brock House Society BC Senior Award in 1994. Peter was proud of exceeding longevity records, such as being the oldest surviving past District Governor of District 5060 Rotary, the oldest past member of the BCAA executive, and oldest past Mayor of Kamloops. His most recent proud moment was to celebrate his and Kim's 75th Wedding Anniversary in November, receiving numerous congratulatory certificates from notables such as Queen Elizabeth, our Prime Minister, our Governor General and our Premier.
