Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at the Palliative Care Unit, Walter Douglas Harding, age 76 years of Portugal Cove. Predeceased by his parents James and Gertrude (Hammond). Leaving to mourn loving wife of 56 years, Carrie (nee Decker); three daughters: Elaine Beckton (Peter Hammond), Carolyn Gollop (Alan Noseworthy) and Donna Harding (husband Bob Williams); seven grandchildren: Monique Engelke (Hagen), Mylah, Jennifer and George Beckton, Megan (Mike Morgan), Nichole and Christopher Gollop; two great-grandchildren: Carrie Morgan and Zoey Engelke; two brothers: Reg (Edith) and Gerald (Florence); sister Sophie Allen (Hector). Leaving to mourn his special in-laws the Decker family; nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends, especially Greg Tucker and Scott Pike. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral service to take place on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 1 p.m. from St. Lawrence Anglican Church, Portugal Cove. Interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Bauline Line. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory may be made to St. Lawrence Anglican Church Building Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
